NGTI, ZDF Extend Relationship

CANNES: ZDF Enterprises has acquired more than 140 hours from National Geographic Television International (NGTI), to be distributed in German-speaking territories on an exclusive basis.

The volume deal includes documentaries in the way of natural history, science, current affairs, society and history, and includes programs produced by National Geographic Television. Titles include The Lost Gospel of Judas, King Tut’s Curse, Strange Days on Planet Earth, Eco Engineering 2 and the wildlife titles Battles of the Arctic Giants, Africa’s Predators in Crisis, Cheetahs Against the Odds and Eden at the End of the World.

Veronique Heim, the acting head of sales at NGTI, commented: “NGTI has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with ZDF/ZDF Enterprises and this new deal further consolidates that position. We both share a passion for high-end, intelligent documentaries and as such, make great partners. Our open relationship and regular communication have enabled us to work closely together to structure this new type of deal.”

Alexander Coridass, the president and CEO of ZDF Enterprises, added: “We are delighted to have agreed this deal with NGTI. This year has been a complex one in the international marketplace, with less programming being commissioned in general and therefore less being available to distribute. Creative approaches to tackling such market challenges can prove to be mutually beneficial; in this case NGTI has secured a major package for 2009 and we have acquired volume, quality programming to service our key clients in the German-speaking market.”
