NGCI Partners with Lonely Planet TV

WASHINGTON, D.C.: National Geographic Channels International and the Australian outfit Lonely Planet Television are co-producing two new series for the Nat Geo Adventure brand.

Premiering in November, the 13-part series Lonely Planet: Roads Less Travelled joins Lonely Planet travel writers and photographers on assignment in some of the world’s most extraordinary travel destinations, including locations in Mexico, Laos and Colombia.  Lonely Planet: Roads Less Travelled is a co-production between Lonely Planet Television and Beach House Pictures in Singapore, with the participation of the Media Development Authority of Singapore.

The 8-part series Graham’s World, premiering next year, chronicles British filmmaker Graham Hughes as he embarks on a solo challenge to step foot in every country on earth without flying.  The journey involves 90,000 kilometers and 200 border crossings, almost all of it on public transportation, with only a video camera for company.

“There is a natural partnership between Nat Geo Adventure and Lonely Planet—two brands synonymous with the unfiltered experiences of young travellers,” said Sydney Suissa, the executive VP of content for NGCI. “Both Lonely Planet: Roads Less Travelled and Graham’s World appeal to audiences energized by bold content that matches their own spirited character.”

“For the first time, Roads Less Travelled showcases the Lonely Planet authors and photographers who play such a vital role at Lonely Planet,” said Lonely Planet Television’s executive producer, Peter Beilby. “We have high expectations of our writers and photographers. We expect them to go one step further than anyone else— these guys didn’t disappoint."

He continued: "Graham’s World is a genuine adventure on a scale you seldom see these days. Just one man with a dream putting his whole life on hold to chase that dream to the ends of the earth.”
