NGCI Commissions Spanish-Language Production

WASHINGTON, DC, September
30: National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has commissioned Consecuencias:
Latin America Uncovered
, its first
program produced entirely in Spanish.

Produced by
FOXTelecolombia, the four-part show is hosted by journalist, author and scholar
Alvaro Vargas Llosa and will premiere in Latin America in October prior to a
global rollout. Each episode identifies revolutionary turning points in Latin
America’s political and social landscape that have shaped the continent today.
The four episodes, “Dictadura,
“Imperialismo,” “Indigenismo” and
“Populismo,” use these themes to illuminate both the complexity and the
challenges of the continent’s cultural, social and political experience over
the last century. Leaders interviewed in the series include Colombian president
Alvaro Uribe, Bolivian president Evo Morales, Peruvian president Alan Garcia
and former Mexican president Vicente Fox.

Sydney Suissa, the
executive VP of content for NGCI, said: “Consecuencias is a landmark production for National Geographic
Channel. We are proud to partner with Alvaro and FOXTelecolombia to offer
viewers an authentic and thought-provoking documentary produced entirely in
Spanish. The series delves into the deeply threaded beliefs, radical political
movements and imperialistic histories that have shaped contemporary Latin
America, and will continue to shape the continent throughout the 21st Century.”
