NGCI Commissions Six-Part Series on Disease Outbreaks

WASHINGTON, August 31: National Geographic Channels
International has commissioned Lion Television to produce Outbreak
Investigation
, a six-part series that looks
at the world’s most baffling outbreaks of diseases.

The 6×1-hour production rolls out this fall on the channel
in 163 countries and 27 languages. “Outbreak Investigation continues the thread of compelling investigative
science series on our channel,” said Sydney Suissa, the EVP of content at NGCI.
“With its blend of high-quality graphic imaging, personal accounts, news
footage and re-creations, viewers are provided real life stories of how experts
raced against the clock to identify these mysterious outbreaks and saved
lives.”

Each episode explores a particular modern-day epidemic. “The
production team has done a magnificent job of recreating the drama, tension and
fear that accompanied each of these epidemics,” said executive producer David
Upshal. “The series breaks new ground and these are truly heroic ‘life or
death’ stories of human suffering and self-sacrifice in the cause of survival.”
