NEW YORK: 60 Minutes has become the first prime-time news magazine to have its own stand-alone app for the iPad.

The 60 Minutes iPad app delivers high-quality video and text versions of the show’s content, including weekly previews, segments, web segments and clips. It also features new original content from the 60 Minutes online series 60 MinutesOvertime. iPad users with the app can also search the 60 Minutes archive and can browse segments by categories.

CBS Mobile and Treemo Labs partnered to develop the 60 Minutes app.

"It is an exciting new way to watch our stories. I love everything about it—the way the app looks, the way the stories play, and the fact that viewers can watch them anytime they want," said 60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager.

"The 60 Minutes app takes full advantage of the generous screen size and unique features of the iPad, including high-quality video," added Rob Gelick, the senior VP and general manager at CBS Mobile. "The app allows fans to extend their engagement with 60 Minutes on a format that is easy to navigate and highly visual."
