New York Festivals TV & Film Awards Adds Telenovela Category

NEW YORK: New York Festivals 2011 International TV & Film Awards has introduced a new category to honor telenovelas.

The winners will be showcased at NYF TV & Film Awards, hosted at the NAB Show in Las Vegas from April 9 to 14. The deadline to enter has been extended to November 5.

Rose Anderson, NYF’s TV & Film’s executive director, commented, "For the first time in the history of New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, the spotlight will be on all of the telenovelas being created today." She added, "Our competition is open to all productions worldwide—wherever they are created and wherever they are aired, they can enter. We want to be able to give outstanding work the recognition it deserves."

"Telenovelas are Latin America’s greatest contribution to the television landscape, not to mention one of the most successful genres in the history of the medium. I congratulate the New York Festivals for taking this step to recognize this important and incredibly popular style of entertainment," said Joaquin Blaya, the former president and CEO of Univision.

In addition to the telenovela category, the 2011 awards will feature a group of new categories in response to worldwide creative trends.
