New Original for A&E

NEW YORK: A&E Network has scheduled a new original series, Beyond Scared Straight, which is based on Arnold Shapiro’s Academy Award-winning documentary Scared Straight!.

Shapiro will serve as executive producer on the show as well. The series profiles a unique approach to juvenile crime prevention in prisons in the U.S. Each hour-long episode fill focus on a different prison program, following four or five at-risk teens. The show watches as these juveniles attend the program, experience a one-day in-prison session and then catches up with the teens one month later to see what was the lasting impression.

A&E debuts the series on January 13 at 10 p.m. with a special 90-minute episode, featuring a women’s prison in central California.
