New Head of Originals at Comedy Central

NEW YORK: Comedy Central has appointed Kent Alterman as its head of original programming and production, to be based in the network’s Los Angeles office.

Alterman, who will report to Michele Ganeless, the president of Comedy Central, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of all original programming on the network. He will oversee the development teams in both Los Angeles and New York. He will also manage the Comedy Central talent and events staff. Alterman previously served as the head of Comedy Central’s New York development office, until 2001. He most recently had a feature-film producing and directing deal with  Fox Film Studios, along with producing and directing projects in development at New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., Lionsgate Films and a television pilot at 20th Television Studio.

“I’ve known and worked with Kent for many years and we are excited to have him rejoin the comedy family,” said Doug Herzog, the president of MTV Networks’ Entertainment Group. “Kent is one of the preeminent creative executives working today. His finely tuned comedic instincts are sure to bring great new programming to the channel."
