LONDON: Channel 4 has promoted Ralph Lee to the newly created position of head of factual, from his prior role as head of specialist factual.

Lee’s new role will also encompass the responsibilities of Hamish Mykura, the head of documentaries and More4, who is leaving after a decade at Channel 4. Lee joined Channel 4 in 2002 and was responsible for commissions such as That’ll Teach ‘Em and the documentary feature Deep Water. He left the channel in late 2007 to join Channel 5, returning the following year as head of specialist factual. A deputy head of factual will be appointed to work with Lee.

"We have been working hard to make Channel 4 more accessible to suppliers and this new structure will streamline the factual commissioning team and speed up the time it takes to get back to producers," said Jay Hunt, the chief creative officer at Channel 4. "Previously there was considerable overlap between departments with suppliers often pitching the same ideas to a number of teams.”
