New Head of Drama Named for ABC TV in Australia

SYDNEY, March 12: Miranda Dear has been tapped as the new
head of drama at ABC TV in Australia, after joining the broadcaster in August
2005 and co-executive producing titles like The Silence.

Since joining ABC TV, Dear has also co-executive produced
the dramas Stepfather of the Bride, Curtin, Bastard Boys and the upcoming Valentine's Day, Rain Shadow, Librarians and East of Everything. Prior to ABC TV, she spent five years as the senior
commissioning editor of drama at SBS Independent, where she was responsible for
the commissioning of films and TV series from Australian independent producers,
which included the Academy Award-winning animation Harvie Krumpet and award-winning feature films Look Both
Ways
and Somersault. There, she was also responsible for commissioning
the series RAN (Remote Area Nurse),
and the feature film Ten Canoes,
both multi-award winners at the 2006 AFI Awards.

Prior to her role at SBS
Independent, Dear served as the senior film buyer at Channel 4 Television in
the U.K. and as Film Four’s acquisition and production consultant in Australia.
