Narrowstep to Power Telefónica’s Broadband Channels

LONDON/NEW YORK, May 24: Telefónica has reached a deal with Narrowstep, a provider of broadband television services, to power its two broadband channels Terra TV Spain and Terra TV Peru.

Under the deal, Narrowstep will provide Telefónica with its proprietary technology telvOS, a system that delivers quality television over IP channels. Narrowstep’s telvOS system provides the backbone for TV over IP for more than 150 channels worldwide, with content ranging from pop culture entertainment, tourism and sports to local broadcasts. Terra currently uses Narrowstep’s advanced 2.6 broadband TV player.

Telefónicais the third largest telco company in the world, and operates two broadband TV channels, Terra TV Spain (www.terra.es) and Terra TV Peru (www.terra.com.pe). Terra TV Spain attracted more than 300,000 unique viewers in March this year and click through rates consistently measure higher than any other offering on the portal. Terra TV Peru is also attracting thousands of unique viewers and is converting 10 percent of its portal visitors to TV viewers. Terra TV delivers content across a number of content categories including entertainment, music, local and worldwide news, business, and health. Terra, the Internet arm of Telefónica, operates some of the most popular websites throughout the U.S., Spain and Latin America targeting Spanish and Portuguese-speaking customers.
