MTVNI Launches New Comedy Central Series

LONDON/NEW YORK/CANNES,
October 9: MTV Networks International (MTVNI) is debuting a new 40×30-minute
customized comedy series, The Colbert Report Global Edition, from Comedy Central, at MIPCOM this week.

Compiled from the original
series, The Colbert Report Global Edition is adapted especially for global audiences and features bespoke
hosted segments with Stephen Colbert on international themes. The new global
version will be internationally syndicated in addition to the 161×30-minute
series, The Colbert Report.

The “global edition” is a
customized programming concept first developed for The Daily Show with Jon
Stewart. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
and The Daily Show Global Edition have done well among 18- to 34-year-old male
viewers on international broadcasters such as CNN, More4 in the U.K., CTV in
Canada and Canal+. New deals for the series have been reached, including
Showtime in the Middle East, DBS in Israel, CNBCe in Turkey, DR in Denmark, OBN
in Bosnia and NRK Norway. The Colbert Report launched for international syndication in spring
2006 and initial deals include CTV in Canada and Foxtel in Australia.

Launched in 2005 on Comedy
Central in the U.S., The Colbert Report is hosted by comedian Stephen Colbert, formerly of The Daily Show, who brings his sarcastic charm to the half-hour
report, tackling the important issues of the day, and telling his guests why
their opinions are just plain wrong.

“We consistently deliver
content that audiences want to see because our brands, like Comedy Central, are
a magnet for the best creative talent out there,” said Debbie Back, the senior
VP of program sales at MTV Networks International. “Yes, The Colbert Report is an Emmy-nominated critical success but first
and foremost it is a comedy series and that’s exactly what it delivers to our
clients and viewers and The Colbert Report Global Edition further supplies the laughs.”
