MTV Preps Steve-O “Self-Doc”

NEW YORK: Next month, MTV in the U.S. will broadcast Steve-O: Demise and Rise, a special in which the Jackass star chronicles his own battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

Set to air May 3 at 10 p.m., the special provides a first-hand account of Steve-O’s downward spiral and the subsequent intervention by his friends to get him on a path to recovery. The special includes Steve-O’s own footage of substance abuse, his attempts to become a gangsta-rapper, infamous public displays of self-destructive behavior and the intervention by his friends to encourage him to enter a rehab facility. "This documentary captures the most frightening moments of my friend at the apex of his addiction," said Johnny Knoxville. "I know because I was there. More importantly though it offers hope, and documents the tremendous amount of courage and hard work on Steve-O’s behalf to turn that hope into a healthy person."

Steve-O is best-known for Jackass and Wildboyz on MTV. This year, he was also a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
