MPA to Host Indonesian Summit

JAKARTA: The first-ever Indonesia Broadcasting Summit, organized by research firm Media Partners Asia and supported by the Ministry of Communication Information Technology and Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia, will take place May 4 in Jakarta.

“Indonesia has emerged as one of the fastest-growing media markets in Asia Pacific and most of the value is presently captured by the TV sector,” said Vivek Couto, the executive director of MPA. “The TV sector generates about $1 billion in annual net sales and is growing rapidly, benefiting broadly from Indonesia’s economic dynamism in recent years. The TV sector’s economic contribution could grow exponentially in the future as free-to-air networks capitalize on local advertising; pay-TV distribution and penetration grow; and the rollout of fixed and wireless broadband digital networks accelerates.”

Topics of discussion will include the challenge of reaching full digitization by 2015, pay-TV piracy, broadband digital networks and new-media platforms such mobile and IPTV.

Speakers at the Summit include: Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad Nuh Dea, Indonesia’s Minister of Communication Information Technology; Hary Tanoesoedibjo, the CEO of Global Mediacom/Media Nusantara Citra; Paul Aiello, the CEO of STAR; Michelle Guthrie, the managing director of Providence Equity Asia; Rudy Tanoesoedibjo, the CEO of MNC Sky Vision; Todd Miller, the executive VP and managing director for Asia at Sony Pictures Television International; Robert Gilby, the managing director of Disney-ABC International Television Asia Pacific; Simon Spalding, the CEO for Europe and Asia at FremantleMedia; and Jonathan Spink, the CEO of HBO Asia.
