More Ex on the Beach & Geordie Shore for the U.K.’s MTV

LONDON: MTV in the U.K. has greenlit a second season of Ex on the Beach, as well as a ninth season of the reality show Geordie Shore.

The first run of Ex on the Beach premiered in April, ranking as MTV’s highest-ever series launch in the market and receiving the second highest series ratings of all time for an MTV franchise in the U.K., according to the network. Whizz Kid Entertainment will produce the sophomore season for MTV, with a debut date scheduled for early 2015.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Ex on the Beach is returning,” said Kerry Taylor, the senior VP and general manager for MTV UK. “The show has connected incredibly well with our target audience, which is reflected in the phenomenal TV ratings and noise on social media. With more of the same lined up for the new series, we can’t wait to get to work on it!”

Meanwhile, the network re-commissioned Geordie Shore, the British spin-off of the U.S.’s Jersey Shore, on the heels of its eighth season’s premiere earlier this week. Lime Pictures will produce the new episodes, which are set to air later this year.
