Moore’s New Doc Grosses $4.5 Million in Opening Weekend

NEW YORK, July 2: SiCKO,
Michael Moore’s controversial new documentary on the U.S. health care system,
drew in more than $4.5 million on 441 screens in its first weekend in theaters,
the second-highest opening ever for a documentary after his own Fahrenheit
9/11
.

SiCKO's
record-breaking opening and $10,200 per screen average placed it among the top
ten films at the box office this weekend alongside the Bruce Willis blockbuster
Live Free Or Die Hard and the
long-awaited new Disney/Pixar release Ratatouille. SiCKO
achieved the third highest per screen average of the weekend.

SiCKO was fully
financed by The Weinstein Company and is being distributed in U.S. theaters and
on pay television in the U.S. by Lionsgate. The Weinstein Company plans to add
the film to 200 additional screens tomorrow and will continue the rollout to
theaters across the country in the weeks ahead.
