Moonscoop Enters Live-Action Genre

PARIS: Moonscoop is moving into live action with its new series Super Sportlets, currently in co-production with Kids Workout Factory.

The 26×11-minute series, aimed to the 5-to-9 demographic, is done in live action shot on a green-screen stage that is then composited with CGI backgrounds and special effects. The show features four college-aged aliens who pursue a bad guy to stop him from robbing Earth kids of their energy and turning them into video-game playing, junk-food eating couch potatoes. The series is set to launch at MIPTV, with global distribution handled by Moonscoop, except in Benelux, which will be represented by Kids Workout Factory.

Mike Young, co-CEO, and Liz Young, the president of Moonscoop, said: “We are excited that we are on board to produce and distribute this new show to the market. This “live-mation” series will be presented in April at MIPTV in Cannes for the first time and the first 26 episodes will be ready and distributed in the second half of 2010.”

Edward J.A De Jager, the CEO of Kids Workout Factory, added: “We are proud and excited to co-produce Super Sportlets with first-class partners Moonscoop and to take the series international. We’re proud of the fact that the show promotes sports to kids and contributes to a healthier life style. Super Sportlets motivates children to play sports and exercise via a number of related platforms: TV show, website, music, events and merchandise.”

Producer Volkert Struycken said: “It’s awesome to shoot 26 green-screen episodes in Hollywood. We are the first kids’ series from the Netherlands who have realized this! I am very pleased with the professional actors and crew and the co-production collaboration with Mike and Liz Young.”

Format developer Stan Adam added: “In 2006/2007 we developed the Sportlets format. It’s really amazing that in such a short timeframe it has grown in to an international series with great licensing products. Although we were nominated in Cannes in 2007 for one of the five best licensable series, you don’t believe it until you have realized it!”
