MIPTV Lines Up Producers’ Forum with World Screen

PARIS: The Producers’ Forum is a new initiative at MIPTV this year, organized in association with World Screen, that will feature a range of workshops and panels on April 12 and 13, including one with MGM’s Gary Marenzi, E1’s John Morayniss and ITV Studios’ Lee Bartlett.

The first-ever Producers’ Forum was designed to help international television producers develop their projects, fund productions and identify new international business opportunities. Organized with World Screen, the Producers’ Forum takes place April 12 and 13, the first two days of MIPTV.

Highlights of the Producers’ Forum include a Co-Production Super Panel, moderated by World Screen‘s group editorial director, Anna Carugati, with Gary Marenzi, the co-president of worldwide television at MGM; John Morayniss, the CEO of E1 Television; and Lee Bartlett, the managing director of ITV Studios. Also on the agenda will be co-production workshops on working in territories such as Brazil, Canada, Japan, Malaysia and China. In addition, Jeff Gomez, the CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, and Nathan Mayfield, the chief creative officer and co-founder of Hoodlum, will discuss cross-media storytelling and content creation. There will also be sessions on pitching, format protection and The WIT’s “Fresh TV Around the World” showcase of the 30 most talked about TV formats aired or commissioned worldwide.

World Screen is also working with MIPDOC on the “Co-Productions Seeking Funding” initiative, which includes a pitching workshop, a co-production “deal making” event and a matchmaking breakfast for potential co-producers.

“In the cyclical production business, producers are once again operating across borders as they search for new co-production partners, creative collaboration and funding possibilities,” said Laurine Garaude, the director of the television division at Reed MIDEM. “We are launching the Producers’ Forum as an effective and focused learning and networking solution to help producers keep abreast of the current co-production trends in order to take advantage of new business opportunities.”

"We are very pleased to be working with our friends at Reed MIDEM in organizing this important event, which will bring executives in the production and co-production communities together," said Ricardo Guise, the publisher of World Screen.
