MIPCOM Wraps with Some 12,500 Participants

CANNES: MIPCOM ends in Cannes today with attendance figures at more than 12,500, Laurine Garaude, director of the television division, announced at a press conference this morning, including some 4,360 buyers, up from 12,400 attendees at last year’s market.

Participants hail from 102 countries, Garaude noted, adding that exhibition space at MIPCOM sold out at the end of August. The mood appeared upbeat over the course of the week as top-level executives stressed the new revenue opportunities being presented by digital-media platforms. "It’s been a very busy, very effervescent, very active MIPCOM," said Garaude. "It’s not technology versus TV or vice versa. We’re working together and together we’re going to go forward and thrive."

Numbers were also up at MIP Junior, Garaude said, with 1,079 participants—including more than 560 buyers—and almost 1,100 programs available to screen.
