MIPCOM to Spotlight iPad & Smartphone Apps

PARIS: MIPCOM is presenting a half-day seminar, on October 6, that will focus on the new publishing sector that has come out of the development of smartphones and online tablet devices.

The seminar kicks off with a special iPad showcase, which will feature a range of new applications. Daniel Efergan, the creative director of Aardman Digital, and Patrice Slupowski, the VP of digital innovation and communities at Orange, will speak on the subject. Jen Topping, the new-media commissioning manager for Channel 4, will also comment, from a broadcaster’s perspective. The seminar will also feature a series of case studies. Speakers will include Anna Rafferty, the managing director of digital publishing at Penguin Books; Shaun Barriball, the founder and CEO of Mobile IQ; Dan Witters, the U.K. managing director of Kiwa Media; and Cédric Thomas from the Ovi by Nokia App store.

The event will be chaired by Ferhan Cook, the publisher of MobiADNews and president of Any Screen Productions. “Convergence is finally here. The new tablet devices and the App stores complete the full circle on rich media publishing, with a clear business model for content. A brand new ‘connected publishing’ industry is being born,” explained Cook.

“We are in the midst of a new publishing revolution which is impacting the entire spectrum of the entertainment industry,” added Laurine Garaude, the director of MIPCOM. “We are very pleased to be holding this important seminar at MIPCOM and plan to develop this further in the future.”
