MGEITF Reveals Channel of the Year Award Nominees

LONDON, June 16: The
MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (MGEITF) has unveiled
the shortlist for the seventh annual Channel of the Year awards, which will be
announced on Saturday, August 23.

The six channels nominated
in the Best Non Terrestrial Channel category are Dave, E4, BBC Three, BBC Four,
ITV2 and Sky One. Meanwhile, BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, Channel 4 and Five are in
the running for the Best Terrestrial Channel prize. Five awards will be granted
in total, including two new categories: Best Terrestrial Program of the Year
and Best Non Terrestrial Program of the Year. The Network and Fast Track Choice
award will also be announced.

The shortlisted channels
will now be asked to provide company data and a show reel that will be judged
by the MGEITF Executive Committee. Members of the public have been voting since
the end of April in an online YouGov poll on criteria such as programming,
innovation, targeting and channel branding.

This year’s awards will be
designed by the winner of a competition organized in association with
Art-s-talker, an agency that represents designers across all areas of the
creative industries.

The year’s MGEITF runs
from August 22 to August 24.
