Mardell Leaves Svensk Filmindustri

STOCKHOLM, March 10: Johan
Mardell, the head of production at Scandinavian outfit Svensk Filmindustri (SF),
will leave the company as of April 1.

The recruitment of a new
head of production for SF is in progress. Upon leaving SF, Mardell aims to
“establish himself as an independent producer,” according to a press release
issued by the company. However, Mardell will complete his responsibilities as
executive producer of the Arn—The Knight Templar project, which is in post-production.

Mardell joined SF as its
head of production in 2003 and has since been the executive producer of films
like Popular Music (Populärmusik
från Vittula), Kim Novak Never Swam in Genesaret’s Lake (Kim Novak badade aldrig i Genesarets sjö), the Van
Veeteren
crime series, the
TV-series The Crown Princess
and Arn—The Knight Templar.

“Johan Mardell has played
a most important part in the development and increased production activities
the last few years,” said Rasmus Ramstad, the president and CEO of Svensk
Filmindustri. “As he now chooses to leave the company and play an independent
[role] as producer, we wish him the best of luck. We will of course try to find
ways of cooperating with him in the future.”
