Malaysian Companies Ink Partnerships at MIPTV

CANNES: The Malaysian companies Ed-Online Technologies and Elite Animation announced international partnerships at MIPTV, with the two deals worth a combined $18 million.

Ed-Online Technologies has inked a co-pro deal with Korean animation outfit NHC Media for a 2-D animated 78×7 -minute TV series, Eori targeting children aged 4 to 6. old. The deal also involves global broadcast distribution and merchandising rights worth $15 million. The show is due to ready by Q2 2011 and will be available in Korean, Bahasa Malaysia and English.

“With the increased number of strategic alliances with foreign government bodies that will allow greater co-productions and collaborative programs to take place, the success of Malaysian companies is something that we are proud of," said Adam Ham, entertainment and media specialist at the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), which led a 13-company delegation to the market. "In conjunction with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and Korea, we believe that in partnership with MSC Malaysia and KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) we are indeed able to provide a conducive platform and co-production grants to position Malaysia as a provider of content/IP for the world, by enabling the right environment for animation, visual effects, games and new media development."

Elite Animation, meanwhile, has clinched a representation deal with Everest International Distribution for America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East regions. The deal is worth about $3 million. Everest will be representing Malaysian titles such as Wonderful World of Science, Land of the Native Jahai, Empayar Melaka and Ramadan Mat Jo.
