Mad Men, Modern Family Score Repeat Emmy Wins

LOS ANGELES: Mad Men landed its fourth consecutive Emmy for Best Drama at last night’s awards, while Modern Family won for Best Comedy for the second year in a row, though overall HBO led the pack with 19 wins in total.

It was a big night for the ABC comedy Modern Family. Series stars Julie Bowen won for supporting comedic actress and Ty Burrell for supporting actor in the category. The show also won for outstanding directing, outstanding writing and the big win for best comedy. The Emmy for leading comedy actor went to Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory and lead actress to Melissa McCarthy for Mike & Molly.

Lead actress in a drama went to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife. Lead actor in a drama went to Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights. The supporting wins in the category went to Margo Martindale of Justified and Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. Also in the drama arena, outstanding directing went to Martin Scorsese for Boardwalk Empire and outstanding writing went to Jason Katims for Friday Night Lights.

The Amazing Race won for outstanding reality-competition program. The win for outstanding variety, music or comedy series went to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. For mini-series, Kate Winslet won for HBO’s Mildred Pierce, which also received a nod for Guy Pearce in the supporting category. Lead actor went to Barry Pepper of The Kennedys, with the supporting actress win going to Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey. The PBS series also won for outstanding miniseries or movie.

Overall, HBO landed a total of 19 wins, followed by PBS with 14. For the networks, CBS took 11 wins, FOX won 9, ABC took 8 and NBC garnered 6.
