Lionsgate Inks Deals on Canadian Drama

SANTA MONICA, October 8:
The Canadian drama The Guard,
which heads into its second season later this month, has clocked up deals in
more than 30 markets, with Lionsgate scoring slots for the show on A&E in
Latin America and MNET in South Africa, among other broadcasters.

The series has sold into
France, Poland, Hungary and the Middle East, with other recent sales that
include YLE in Finland and RTBF in Belgium. The Guard is produced by Halifax Film, a DHX Media company,
and Brightlight Pictures for Global Television in Canada.

“We’ve been extremely
pleased with the reception The Guard has received internationally, and as MIPCOM arrives, we anticipate
the sales to continue to heat up,” said Craig Cegielski, the executive VP of programming and sales at Lionsgate International
Television.

The show focuses on four
Coast Guard rescue specialists as they look for meaning in their own lives
while enduring the daily dangers on the Pacific Ocean.
