Lineup Announced for Brazil’s PIC DOC

SÃO PAULO: Brazilian TV Producers (BTVP) has signed up a roster of experts from Europe, North America and Latin America to share their experience, knowledge and production know-how with attendees at this year’s PIC DOC, a five-day international training program in documentaries.

Among the experts set to attend the training conference are Bill Nemtin, the producer for History Makers; Geoffrey Daniels, the senior VP of development and production for National Geographic Channels International; and Michela Giorelli, the executive in charge of production and development at Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic. Also in the lineup are, among others, Ari Ylä-Anttila, the commissioning editor of factual programs at YLE in Finland; Elisabeth Hulten, the commissioning editor for ARTE’s documentary unit; Heather Croall, the director of the Sheffield Doc/Fest; and Maro Chermayeff, an executive producer for PBS.

The five-day program, designed to help producers increase the competitiveness of Brazilian documentary projects in the international marketplace, will take place in Rio de Janeiro from November 30 to December 4.

“We have worked aggressively to invite Brazilian professionals which would correspond well with this group of top-tier foreign professionals such as festival directors, publication editors and journalists, association directors and doc-support programs, producers and directors,” said Jacques Besimon, the senior international strategic consultant at Brazilian TV Producers. “Our theme is ‘diversity,’ therefore our selection includes commissioning editors from all over, Europe, North America and Latin America, from both the private and public sectors. We see this program as another vital element to the continued success of our co-production partnership initiatives.”
