Legendary Filmmaker Bergman Passes Away

FARO, July 30: Ingmar Bergman, the acclaimed Swedish
filmmaker, passed away in his home in Faro, Sweden, today. He was 89.

Over the course of his 60-year career, Bergman became one of
modern cinema’s icons with releases such as Wild Strawberries, Scenes From a Marriage and Fanny and Alexander. He made a total of 54 films and also worked in
theater and radio. Between 1960 and 1984, Bergman received nine Academy Award
nominations and won his first in 1961 for The Virgin Spring. The following year he won again for Through
A Glass Darkly
. He won his third best
foreign film Oscar in 1982 for Fanny and Alexander, which had been cut down from a five-hour TV
mini-series. His last work, Saraband,
aired on Swedish television in December 2003.
