Layoffs Announced at Turner

NEW YORK/ATLANTA: Turner Broadcasting System is eliminating about 1,475 positions from its global workforce, with the layoffs to come from across the news, entertainment, kids, young adult and sports networks businesses.

Turner currently employs about 14,000 staff across the globe. The workforce cuts, reducing the staff base by 10 percent, will be made in 18 locations around the world over the next two weeks.

"The position eliminations are one component of a comprehensive initiative and company reorganization to focus resources and prioritize investment in programming, monetization and innovation as near- and long-term drivers of growth," Turner said in a statement.
