Latin American Deal for Power’s Triffids

LAS VEGAS: Power has sealed a range of Latin American broadcast deals on its 2×2-hour mini-series The Day of the Triffids, including shoring up a slot on Mexico’s TV Azteca.

The Power and Prodigy Pictures co-production, a contemporary take on John Wyndham’s international bestseller, is slated for a BBC One broadcast later this year. Production on the two-parter kicks off in the U.K. next month. It has been sold to Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Peru, and pan-regional broadcaster Turner shored up the cable rights. A DVD deal was also scored in Brazil with MPA.

"The pre sales of Triffids throughout Latin America shows how iconic a property this is, we will deliver a big budget, spectacular modern day adaptation of the original novel," said Pepe Echegaray, Power’s VP of sales and distribution for Latin America said.
