L.A. Screenings Buyer Feedback: Televisa

LOS ANGELES/MEXICO CITY, June 7: Carlos Sandoval, the general director of content acquisitions at the Mexican media giant Televisa, says he will surely be buying a number of shows he saw at the L.A. Screenings.

“We don’t need any specific programming or anything for a particular time slot, just quality product that works for our audiences,” explains Sandoval, who lists The Event, a conspiracy thriller from NBC Universal for NBC; Undercovers, a J.J. Abrams spy drama from Warner Bros. for NBC; Nikita, and action series from Warner Bros. for The CW; Love Bites a romantic comedy anthology series from NBC Universal for NBC; and Chase, a Jerry Bruckheimer action drama from Warner Bros. for NBC, among the shows he liked.

“This time around we didn’t get a sense of any trends but some studios are doing series remakes that worked in the past and that’s a trend in and of itself,” he continues. “It makes me wonder if it’s something that will be consistently done in the future. This can be good for the studios because they already have finished scripts and they know what worked and what didn’t, but at the same time it can cause a problem if there isn’t enough time between the new and original versions, and if it’s not well made it will have a short life span.”

Sandoval adds, “I think it’s time we begin to air in HD in the region and we’re discussing this with the studios. Since we receive material electronically and sending an HD file isn’t a major problem and doesn’t represent additional costs for the studios, we should try to offer our viewers the best possible experience.”
