JCC Launches Educational Arabic VOD Portal

DOHA: Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC) has unveiled Taalam.TV, the first Arabic VOD educational portal for schools and educators.

Taalam.TV, which means Learn.TV, offers a database of educational materials and videos from JCC programs for classrooms. The portal was fully developed by Al Jazeera Children’s Channel website and multimedia team in collaboration with a group of Arab teachers and experts who verified the educational information of the videos and composed the supplementary tools such as fact sheets and sample exercises. Taalam.TV was done with support from the Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development (QF).

Mahmoud Bouneb, the executive general manager for Al Jazeera Children’s Channel, said: “I am proud and happy with this new achievement that answers to both QF and JCC’s mission to empower the Arab children and enhance their personal capabilities and cognitive abilities by opening up new knowledge horizons and introducing modern learning tools. Our research has revealed that children pay a remarkable amount of attention to audio-visual presentations. With Taalam.TV, primary and elementary school teachers can now bring lessons to life by using a wide array of short educational videos, fact sheets, graphics and a rich image library intended to help students achieve a greater understanding of the different subjects presented in class.”

Bouneb added: “Taalam.TV is an ongoing collaborative project between QF, JCC and the Arab educational communities with the aim of providing our children, the citizens of tomorrow, a better education. I would encourage every teacher and school to explore the portal, evaluate the audio-visual educational content, and provide us with their comments and input.”
