International Emmy Nominees Span 15 Countries

NEW YORK: The nominations for the 2016 International Emmy Awards have been announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, with 15 countries represented across 10 categories.

The nominees come from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, the U.K., United Arab Emirates and the U.S. The winners will be announced at a black-tie Ceremony on November 21 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

“The International Emmy competition is the pinnacle for recognizing excellence in television around the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We congratulate the 2016 nominees and welcome them to our global stage.”

The nominees for drama series are 19-2 (Sphere Media Plus/Echo Media; Canada), La Casa Del Mar (OnDIRECTV/Cisne Films/StoryLab; Argentina), Deutschland 83 (RTL Television/UFA Fiction; Germany) and Waiting for Jasmin (ABC Marketing and Distribution; United Arab Emirates).

The comedy contenders are Call My AgentDix Pour Cent (Mon Voisin Productions/Mother Production/France Télévisions/Ce Qui Me Meut; France), Hoff the Record (Me & You Productions; U.K.), Puppet Nation ZA (Both Worlds; South Africa) and The MessZorra (Globo TV; Brazil).

Up for the Emmy in the documentary category are KBS Documentary Gong Gam: Mom & Clarinet (Korean Broadcasting System/Upright Media; South Korea), Mothers of Plaza de Mayo: The StoryMadres de Plaza de Mayo: La Historia (El Perro en la Luna/Tv Pública/Canal Encuentro/Asociación Madres de plaza de Mayo; Argentina), My Son the Jihadi (True Vision Productions; U.K.) and War of Lies (Zischlermann Filmproduktion; Germany).

The nominees in the non-scripted entertainment arena are Adotada (Formata Producoes e Conteúdo; Brazil), The Great Swedish AdventureAllt För Sverige (Meter Television/Sveriges Television; Sweden), Gogglebox (Studio Lambert; U.K.) and I Can See Your Voice (CJ E&M; South Korea).

The TV movie/mini-series category features Capital (Kudos; U.K.), Naked Among WolvesNackt unter Wölfen (UFA Fiction/MDR/ARD Degeto/WDR/SWR/BR MIA Film; Germany), The Wise OnesOs Experientes (Globo/O2 Filmes; Brazil) and Splash Splash Love (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation; South Korea).

The telenovelas up for the Emmy are 30 Vies—Samuel Pagé (Aetios Productions/Ici Radio-Canada; Canada), Bridges of Love (ABS-CBN Corporation; Philippines), Rules of the GameA Regra do Jogo (Globo TV; Brazil) and Hidden TruthsVerdades Secretas (Globo TV; Brazil).

The programs nominated in the Non-English U.S. primetime category are Asombrosamente (Fox Networks Group Latin America/National Geographic Channels Latin America/NatGeo Mundo/Nativa Productions; U.S.), La Banda (FremantleMedia Latin America/Syco/Univision/Saban; U.S.) Francisco, El Jesuita (Anima Films/The History Channel Latin America/Telemundo/Claro-Video/DirecTV; U.S.) and A Trip with FidelUn Viaje con Fidel (CNN en Español; U.S.).

The arts programming nominees are Gabo (Justin Webster Productions/Discovery Networks Latin America/Caracol Televisión; Colombia), Gérard Depardieu: Out of FrameGérard Depardieu: grandeur Nature (Kaliste Productions/Richard Melloul Productions/France Télévisions; France), Interrupt This ProgramResilient Cities (Noble Television & Storypark Inc.; Canada) and NonFictionW_The Man Who Shot HiroshimaNonFictionW_Satsuei-Kantoku Karry-Mimura no Hiroshima (WOWOW/Kmax Co.; Japan).

In the performance categories, the best actor nominees are Dustin Hoffman in Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot (Endor Productions; U.K.), Alexandre Nero in Rules of the GameA Regra do Jogo (Globo TV; Brazil), Florian Stetter in Naked Among Wolves (UFA Fiction/MDR/ARD Degeto/WDR/SWR/BR/MIA Film; Germany) and James Wen in Echoes of Time (Ochre Pictures; Singapore). The best actress nominees are Judi Dench in Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot (Endor Productions; U.K.), Jodi Sta. Maria in The PromisePangako Sa’yo (ABS-CBN Corporation; Philippines), Grazi Massafera in Hidden TruthsVerdades Secretas (Globo TV; Brazil) and Christiane Paul in Under the RadarUnterm Radar (Enigma film/Westdeutschen Rundfunk/ARD Degeto; Germany).

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy Awards for programming and performances, the Academy will present two special awards. Shonda Rhimes, the writer, executive producer and creator behind global hit series Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch will receive the International Emmy Founders Award. Maria Rørbye Rønn, the CEO and director general of Danish Broadcasting Corporation, which pioneered and drove the success of Nordic Noir drama around the world, will receive the International Emmy Directorate Award.
