TORONTO/LONDON: British outfit Impossible Pictures is aligning with Entertainment One (eOne) for a six-part World War II documentary series that will air on Channel 4, History Television Canada and UKTV, with worldwide distribution outside the U.K. and Canada to be handled by Cineflix International.

The 6×1-hour The Last War Heroes (working title) traces the allied troop’s push from D-Day to the time of Hitler’s suicide. The HD series filmed with high-speed cameras intends to show the effects of WWII weaponry. It will also feature interviews with veterans and archive footage from the Imperial War Museum and National Archives.

“As we continue to expand our factual content business, eOne is thrilled to be partnering on the production of this breakthrough series,” said Michael Kot, senior VP of factual entertainment at Entertainment One Television. “Using the latest technologies and heartfelt interviews we will providers viewers with an inside and intimate look at the war like they’ve never witnessed before.”

“We will illustrate the stories of surviving frontline combat troops with the most ambitious recreation ever undertaken for a documentary series,” added Paul Wooding, Impossible Pictures’ executive producer. "We’ll use live bombs and ammunition in specially created environments to visualize their combat experiences and reunite them with equipment and personal kit to re-ignite their memories and appreciate how they lived in extreme weather without shelter and survived mentally under fire."
