Imagine in Pilot Deal with Roddenberry Productions

LOS ANGELES: Imagine Television, founded by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, is on board to develop a pilot for The Questor Tapes, which Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry first tried to bring to TV 35 years ago.

Roddenberry conceived of The Questor Tapes as a TV series about an android with incomplete memory tapes who searches for his creator and his purpose. A pilot was produced and broadcast as a TV movie in 1974. Today, the son of the legendary sci-fi producer, Rod Roddenberry, announced a deal with Imagine to produce a new pilot for the project. The announcement was made at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Rod Roddenberry accepted the posthumous honor, presented by Seth MacFarlane, on his father’s behalf.

"My father always felt that Questor was the one that got away," said Rod Roddenberry. "He believed that the show had the potential to be bigger than Star Trek."

Rod Roddenberry will develop the project along with Trevor Roth, the COO of Roddenberry Productions, and Imagine Television’s president, David Nevins, and executive VP of development, Robin Gurney. The team is currently in negotiations with writer, producer and show runner Tim Minear (Lois & Clark, The X-Files, Angel, Dollhouse) to produce.
