HDNet Takes BBC’s Torchwood

DALLAS, August 1: Mark
Cuban’s HDNet has acquired the high-definition rights to the first 26
episodes of the BBC’s science-fiction series Torchwood.

Set in Cardiff, Wales, Torchwood focuses on a renegade group of investigators who
scavenge alien technology to solve crimes, both alien and human. "We're
thrilled to be airing Torchwood
in HD," said Cuban, the president and co-founder of HDNet. "This is
certainly a Russell T. Davies signature show. Torchwood explores adult themes and doesn't shy away from
anything. Whether it's the diverse storylines or the hero's ambivalence to
sexual boundaries, this is not your typical show, and I love it."

HDNet will launch Torchwood on Monday, September 17, at 7 p.m. It gets its U.S. premiere on BBC
America on September 8 at 9 p.m.
