NEW YORK: HBO has taken on the documentary Sing Your Song, based on the life of singer Harry Belafonte, which will debut exclusively on the channel this fall.

Sing Your Song, which was presented at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and the 2011 Berlin Film Festival, tells the story of how Belafonte rose to fame despite the obstacles of touring across a segregated U.S., and his impact on the American civil rights movement and social justice.

The film comes from Susanne Rostook of The Long Way Home and producers include Michael Cohl, Gina Belafonte, Jim Brown, William Eigen and Julius R. Nasso.

Cohl commented: “HBO is the best home I know of for documentaries in this country. They have a long track record of presenting great non-fiction programming, I’m thrilled that Sing Your Song will have its broadcast premiere on HBO.”
