HBO Max Nears Full Availability Across Europe

HBO Max will be near full availability across Europe in the new year, with the platform to launch in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein on January 13.

Audiences in these countries will be able to stream content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, the DC Universe and Max originals in one place via the HBO Max app.

In addition to hit series such as The Pitt, IT: Welcome to Derry, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Euphoria and Industry and films like Superman, The Batman and Dune, a raft of local programming will be available.

Original programming from Germany and Italy will be coming as part of the expansion. From Germany will be 4 Blocks Zero, a prequel to the gangster drama 4 Blocks, and Banksters, a heist drama based on a true story, both produced by W&B Television. Also coming in 2026 is a documentary by Beetz Brothers about the theft of the Big Maple Leaf gold coin from Berlin’s Bode Museum. Plus, Jantje Friese and Baran Bo Odar from Dark Ways will produce a thriller series.

From Italy, meanwhile, will be a drama that retraces the 2011 murder of Melania Rea and Portobello, telling the true story of Italian TV host Enzo Tortora, who was wrongfully accused of mafia ties in the 1980s. Docuseries from Italy include Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa, an account of the battle over the legacy of a cinema icon, and Saman, about the struggle for freedom of a young Pakistani woman murdered by her own family clan for refusing an arranged marriage.

In Germany, HBO Max will also be the home of top German and international cinema, with a range of films made available through output agreements with Leonine Studios and Constantin Films, as well as German Warner Bros. Pictures productions like Wunderschöner. There will also be a curated selection of film premieres from DCM and other local partners.

In Italy, at launch, HBO Max will exclusively feature Nonostante, the new film directed by and starring Valerio Mastandrea. From February, the platform will feature Squali, the film debut of Daniele Barbiero.

Plenty of sports coverage is included as well with the Sports add-on, which makes Eurosport’s coverage available. This includes every tennis match from the Australian Open and Roland-Garros, as well as more than 300 days of live cycling, including every stage in full of cycling’s iconic Tour de France. In Germany and Italy, viewers will have access to the winter sports season, including World Championships and World Cup events, and viewers in Italy will benefit from FA Cup and UFC coverage.

Plus, the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 will be made available to all subscribers across every plan.
