HBO Makes Comedy & Drama Appointments

NEW YORK: Casey Bloys has been upped to senior VP of HBO Entertainment comedy series, while Jocelyn Diaz joins the company as VP for drama series.

Bloys oversees the development and production of all half-hour scripted comedy series for the network. Most recently, he developed the HBO comedy hit Hung and the upcoming Bored to Death. Bloys joined HBO in 2004 as director of development for HBO Independent Productions (HIP), and was promoted to VP of HIP in 2005.

Diaz will be responsible for the development and production of dramatic series for the HBO network. Diaz comes to HBO from ABC Television, where she was VP of primetime drama series and development. In addition, she worked on ABC’s efforts in international scripted business and development. While at ABC Television, Diaz worked on such series as Lost, Ugly Betty, Pushing Daisies, NYPD Blue, The Practice and The Drew Carey Show.

“Comedy isn’t something you can teach, either you know it or you don’t,” said Sue Naegle, the president of HBO Entertainment. “Casey has a natural ability and a great eye for talent. It’s hard to imagine HBO’s comedy department without his guidance and leadership.”

“Jocelyn’s approach to development is one that works to preserve and support the writer’s vision,” added Naegle. “She has excellent relationships in the creative community and is a great fit for HBO’s commitment to unique and innovative programming.”
