Grammys Score Interim WGA Agreement

LOS ANGELES, January 29: The
Writers Guild of America has reached an interim agreement with the Grammy
Awards, which is slated to air live on CBS on February 10.

The deal allows for
writers to pen material for the annual music awards ceremony, and follows the
guild’s decision to not picket the event. A statement from the president of WGA
West, Patric Verrone, noted:
“Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do
concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media. In the
interest of advancing our goal of achieving a fair contract, the WGAW Board
felt that this decision should be made on behalf of our brothers and sisters in
the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television
and Radio Artists.”
