Globo TV International to Debut Amazonia at MIPCOM

RIO DE JANEIRO, October 5: The new TV Globo mini-series Amazonia, from Glória Perez, author of the acclaimed
telenovela The Clone (El
Clon
), will be unveiled at MIPCOM by Globo
TV International.

In Brazil, Amazonia
achieved a 44-percent share, an average 16.6 million viewers watching for each
minute of broadcast. The mini-series is already airing in Portugal.

Amazonia recounts the
saga of the conquest of an Amazonia region and the struggle to preserve its
biodiversity. The mini-series depicts how this fertile land is soon overtaken
by exploitation and injustice.

The Amazonia crew
filmed in various locations in forests, on rivers and waterways, on beaches, in
historic centers, and studio sets. Nearly 20 tons of equipment and more than
16,000 costume pieces were made especially for the mini-series. In an area of
around 5,550 square meters, five scenic cities were constructed, while in the studios,
38 sets were built, just for the first phase of the mini-series. The actors had
a crash course in the life of rubber workers at a wildlife reserve in the
Amazon. One of the main actresses of the miniseries is Giovanna Antonelli, the
same actress that played Jade from The Clone.
