TORONTO: The 13-episode series Combat Hospital is the second original from Canada’s Global Television that has been scooped up by ABC, the other being Rookie Blue.

The drama will air in simulcast on the U.S. broadcast network this summer. The show is set in a hospital (one inspired by the Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit (MMU) at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan), and charts the lives of its resident doctors and nurses from allied countries. The series is a joint production of Canada’s Sienna Films and the U.K.’s Artists Studio.

"With the record setting success of Rookie Blue, we’re looking forward to partnering with ABC on another winning series," said Barbara Williams, the senior VP of content at Shaw Media. "The appeal of Combat Hospital will cut across all demographics and many nationalities. It’ll provide the flip side to an international conflict that comes into our homes every day."

"We are thrilled to be working with Shaw and ABC—excellent broadcasting partners—as well as the team we’ve assembled, from Dan Petrie Jr. to our co-producing partners in the U.K.," said Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny, executive producers from Sienna Films.
