Global IPTV Revenues to Reach $49 Billion in 2015

SAN JOSE: The global IPTV market is expected to generate $49 billion in 2015, with Europe and North America accounting for the largest shares, according to new research from the Multimedia Research Group (MRG).

In its updated IPTV Global Forecast report, MRG predicts that the number of global IPTV subscribers will increase from 54 million at the end of 2011 to 113 million in 2015. The represents a compound annual growth rate of 20.3 percent.

Service revenue from the global IPTV market is expected to grow from $22.4 billion in 2011 to $49 billion in 2015. This means a compound annual growth rate of 21.7 percent.

North America and Europe are forecast to generate a larger share of the global revenue, partially due to continued regulatory confusion in Asia. By 2015 worldwide, at least 25 IPTV operators will have more than 1 million subscribers, with nine having more than 3 million; the U.S. having two operators with more than 7.5 million each and Europe having 12 IPTV operators with more than 1 million each. Eastern Europe is expected to show strength, with Romania showing 141-percent subscriber growth over one year ago.
