Game of Thrones Tops Piracy List for Third Year in a Row

LOS ANGELES: For the third consecutive year, Game of Thrones has taken the top spot as the most illegally downloaded TV show, according to TorrentFreak.

The 2014 season finale of Game of Thrones garnered more than 8 million downloads via BitTorrent. The Walking Dead was second, with 4.8 million downloads, followed by The Big Bang Theory with 3.9 million at number three. The top five was rounded out by How I Met Your Mother (3.5 million) and Gotham (3.2 million).

Arrow was at number six on the list of most pirated TV shows with 2.9 million downloads, with Grey's Anatomy trailing with 2.8 million and Vikings with 2.7 million. Suits was at number nine with 2.5 million and South Park capped off the top 10 with 2.4 million downloads.

TorrentFreak noted that total piracy numbers are actually significantly higher, though, as online streaming and downloads for file-hosting services are not included in the above figures since there are no public sources to draw data from.
