Friday Night Lights Named TCA Program of the Year

BEVERLY HILLS: Friday Night Lights took the top honor as Program of the Year at the 27th annual Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards, which recognized shows across comedy, drama, reality, mini-series, news and youth programming.

In its second consecutive TCA win, Modern Family won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy. Mad Men received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, its third win in the category (having won in 2008 and 2009). The nod for Outstanding New Program went to Game of Thrones.

The TCA award for Individual Achievement in Drama went to Jon Hamm of Mad Men. Nick Offerman of Parks and Recreation, who also hosted the event, shared the win for Individual Achievement in Comedy with Modern Family‘s Phil Dunphy.

Sherlock came out on top in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials. The Amazing Race took the inaugural award for Outstanding Achievement in Reality Programming.

The TCA also recognized Sesame Street with the award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming. The National Geographic Channel documentary Restrepo won the award for Outstanding Achievement in News & Information.

The Heritage Award went to The Dick Van Dyke Show for its cultural and social impact on society. Carl Reiner, the show’s creator, was on hand to receive the accolade, alongside series actors Rose Maria and Larry Mathews.

This year’s Career Achievement Award went to Oprah Winfrey for her influence through 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
