Former SCI FI Exec Joins Cartoon Network

BURBANK, March 10: Cartoon
Network has appointed former SCI FI Channel executive Robert Swartz as its VP
of original series.

Beginning March 17, Swartz
will lead development on all of Cartoon Network’s animated, live-action and
alternative series. He is also responsible for identifying new creative talent.

Swartz’s appointment marks
the consolidation of the network’s development and current series departments
under one roof at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California, where he is
based.

As the VP of alternative
programming at SCI FI Channel, Swartz was responsible for the development and
production of reality, game and competition, late night and other alternative
programming. He also worked on content development for SCI FI’s broadband video
network, Pulse, and has held prior positions at NBC Entertainment and Walt
Disney/Touchstone Television.

"Rob brings a fresh
perspective to the kids arena and knows development across all formats,"
said Robert Sorcher, the chief content officer for Cartoon Network, to whom
Swartz will report. "Having our entire development and current teams on
the west coast will allow us to extend our relationships with the creative
community and rapidly expand our slate of series and productions."

"This is an exciting
time at Cartoon Network and I am thrilled to be coming on board," said
Swartz. "I am looking forward to working with Rob and the great content
team already in place."
