LONDON: Simon Lupton, who previously served as an executive editor for comedy commissioning at the BBC, has been hired by DLT Entertainment as a production development consultant.

Lupton will be working alongside John Bartlett to develop new comedy projects for U.K. broadcasters, and is also tasked with investigating new business opportunities for DLT. Lupton served a three-year tenure as a comedy exec at the BBC and was a BBC executive producer on series such as My Family, which is produced by the company. Further BBC credits include Catherine Tate: Nan’s Christmas Carol (BBC One), Horne and Corden (BBC Three), Getting On (BBC Four) and Harry and Paul (BBC One).

Don Taffner Jr, the president of DLT Entertainment, commented: “When we heard that Simon was leaving the BBC to work on some independent projects, we jumped at the opportunity to work with him. He has a wealth of expertise in the comedy genre, having worked with an impressive list of on and off screen talent. Having worked with him for the last two series of My Family, I know he understands the shared vision that we have for the company and will be invaluable in working alongside John Bartlett, who has been our producer for My Family for the last 11 series.”

Lupton said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join a company with the wealth of expertise that DLT has. They have a strong tradition of delivering high-quality show and I am hugely impressed by their commitment and desire to use that experience to explore a whole range of new possibilities for comedy with both established and raw talent. While at the BBC I had the privilege of being involved as an exec on a number of terrific shows and now I am relishing this fantastic opportunity offered by Don which enables me to work closely with writers and performers again.”
