CANNES: The British series The World at War is being re-mastered and re-released to global audiences on DVD and Blu-ray later this year through FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME).

The restored version will be launched in September. It will be available as an 11-disc DVD set and a 9-disc Blu-ray. Each frame was restored individually and audio has been upgrade. Dubbs and sister company Eyeframe will be overseeing the entire project, including telecine, re-grading and restoration.

The series was originally broadcast in 1973, and features interviews with major members of the Allied and Axis campaigns, civilian eyewitnesses, enlisted men, officers and politicians.

Pete Kalhan, the senior VP for home entertainment and archive sales at FME, said, “The World at War continues to defy difficult times in the home entertainment sector, and indeed overall. The original production values combined with FME’s savvy brand management over 35 years means it’s had years of success. And we’re looking forward to growing it further as we introduce a newly restored, Blu-ray version to audiences around the world.”
