FME Takes On Lisa Kudrow’s Showtime Series

LOS ANGELES: FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has scooped up the worldwide distribution rights, excluding North America, to Lisa Kudrow’s 10×30-minute Showtime series Web Therapy.

The show was reformatted from the short-form web series of the same name from Is or Isn’t Entertainment for launch on Showtime this July as half-hour episodes. Co-created by Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky and Don Roos, it originally ran on the broadband site LStudio.com. The Webby award-winning comedy stars Kudrow as a therapist who discards the traditional hour-long in-person sessions for three-minute interactions with her patients via a webcam. The guest stars who have appeared as Kudrow’s patients include Victor Garber, Jane Lynch, Rashida Jones, Alan Cumming and Courteney Cox.

“We are consistently searching non-traditional avenues for new and exciting original content for TV and with Web Therapy we have found exactly what we were looking for," said Jeff Tahler, senior VP of acquisitions and development at FME, which will launch the show to the international market at MIPCOM. "The web series was received extremely well online and we are confident that the TV series will have equal success. We look forward to working with and adding such great key talent to our comedy portfolio.”
