NEW YORK: ION Television has picked up the rights to existing and future episodes of the police procedural Flashpoint from CBS Television Distribution.

The Canadian drama is currently in its third season on CTV; the season finale is due to air after the Super Bowl in February. The series had been airing on CBS, which intends to air remaining episodes from season three and some episodes from season four later this year. Thereafter, the show will head to ION, which has picked up all episodes that have already been produced and the 18 that are still in production. Plus, network has the rights to continue original production for season five and beyond. The deal marks ION’s first foray into original drama production.

Brandon Burgess, chairman and CEO of ION Media Networks, commented, “After the success we have had with procedural dramas, we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to air original episodes of Flashpoint. It’s a perfect fit for ION Television. This is the first step in our commitment to expand original programming over the coming 12-24 months in scripted and unscripted entertainment.”

Flashpoint is produced by Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment in association with CTV and CBS.
