TORONTO: The Banff World Media Festival will present Felicia Day with the 2011 nextMEDIA Outstanding Online Performance Award for her hit online series The Guild.

Day is the writer, producer and star of the sitcom web series about a group of online gamers, which has reached more than 100 million online views since its start in 2007. While the project was originally financed by fans, Day has since secured funding for The Guild through partnerships with Xbox Live, Microsoft and Sprint.

Day will also be giving a special master class as part of nextMEDIA Banff called Anatomy of a Successful Web Series, in which she will give attendees a look at the production strategies behind The Guild‘s success.

Ferne Cohen, the executive director of Banff, said: “Felicia Day’s business achievements are one of the grassroots success stories that make the online space so exciting. Not only is she a brilliant actor, she had the production savvy to turn a small, fan-financed project into a major hit with big-name partnerships. We look forward to hearing Felicia’s insights in her nextMEDIA master class.”
